Workshop Duration: 1.5 hours

Part 1 is delivered as a 1.5-hour workshop. Part 2 is also 1.5 hours and may be taken separately or combined with Part 1 as a single 3-hour session.

This workshop can be delivered in person or virtually.

This workshop is part of the School Physical Literacy Leader - Level 1 (Elementary) Certification.

The goal of Energize Minds, Empower Bodies: Practical Strategies for Movement in the Classroom (Part 1) is to provide elementary educators with a foundational understanding of physical literacy and its role in supporting learning, well-being, and lifelong participation in physical activity.

Part 1, The Blueprint, explores why movement matters in schools and how educators can create environments that support active, engaged learning. Participants will examine the evidence behind movement in educational settings, explore the five key characteristics of meaningful physical activity, and discover practical ways to create movement-rich learning environments that support all students.

  • Define physical literacy and its importance in educational settings.
  • Identify the benefits of integrating physical activity throughout the school day.
  • Explore the five key characteristics of meaningful physical activity.
  • Understand how movement can support social-emotional learning and student engagement.
  • Recognize opportunities to incorporate movement into classroom routines and learning experiences.
